Macon County has a Tier 2 rating from the North Carolina Department of Commerce which allows significant tax credits for business development (potential for $5,000 tax credit per new job with a requirement to create at least 10 jobs, and a 5% tax credit for eligible business property expenditures of more than $1 million).

Fiber

Our high speed internet infrastructure is on par with major metropolitan areas. BalsamWest FiberNET operates a first-class fiber optic network in our rapidly expanding region between Atlanta, Knoxville, Asheville, Charlotte and Greenville. Macon County is served by both Duke Energy and the Haywood Electric Membership Cooperative.

Water & Sewer needs are addressed by the Town of Franklin or Town of Highlands.


Airport

Macon County has a state-of-the-art airfield and terminal facility serving the immediate area. The Macon County Airport is located in Iotla Valley in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. It is approximately 3 miles from Franklin, and the nearest airport facility to the Highlands & Cashiers area. Franklin Aviation provides you with full service FBO Shell Aviation Fuels-100LL & Jet A. The Macon County Airport will accommdate business jets up to Citation/Leer.

Macon County Business Development Center

To assist in workforce training, Macon County has an incubator or business development facility located within our Industrial Park. The facility is currently undergoing renovations to accommoate today's industry and entrepreneurial needs.

In the early 70’s Macon County purchased 102 acres for the development of an Industrial Park. (Plat download)  The county applied for and received grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and the Appalachian Regional Commission to assist in design and development costs of the Park.

  • State of North Carolina National Guard Amory
