Banquet: Honors Drake, Promotes EDC

by: Barbara McRae |The Franklin Press

Macon County's first-ever Enterprise Banquet became the first event to grace the new Mountain View Intermediate School Thursday.

The event also provided the venue for Ronnie Beale, chairman of the county board of commissioners, to award the first "Macon County Medallion of Honor" to Phil and Sharon Drake for their many contributions to the community, which include providing more than 450 jobs through a number of Drake Enterprise companies. Beale described the newly established award as the highest honor the county can bestow. It was established by a unanimous vote of the commissioners, he said. A copy of the award will be hung at the courthouse.

"Macon County has been better to us than we have been to it," Phil Drake said in accepting the award. "I hope we can create a place where our grandchildren can work." read more
